Forget that expensive wing place downtown, make them even better at home! Wings that actually really do taste just like pizza! Easy to make, baked in the oven, lightly crispy on the outside, dripping with juice on the inside, and smothered with a blanket of gooey cheese and spicy pepperoni! What more could any wing lover want?
Sorry for so many delays, friends! I’ve been in and out of the hospital, but doing ok and feisty as ever! (Probably why I’m still alive!) So, these posts are coming a bit late. But, believe me, they’re definitely worth the wait!
Ok, so, enough about me. I’ll be fine. I’m a fighter!
Have you all, too, been disappointed when ordering wings from your local hotspot that sounded good and looked incredible in the picture on the menu? But when brought to the table or dropped off curbside, were just drastically over-priced, sadly pathetic-tasting, and looked like they were run over, twice, by a disgruntled employee?
Well, that just, again, happened to us! I ordered “pizza wings” that tasted nothing like pizza — from this planet, anyway. I really don’t know what they were thinking!
So, I decided to just come up with my very own, and DANG were they good!!
They truly DID taste just like pizza, and though my photos aren’t stellar, the flavor was definitely over-the-moon delicious!!
And you can whip these babies up yourself, no problem!
They’re just dredged in a simple seasoned flour, then dipped into the beaten egg pool for a bath, then coated beautifully with seasoned breadcrumbs that reminded me of a warm, sunny beach! (I think I’m dreaming of summer…you, too?!)
I then took the easy way out, as to not disturb my pretty crumb coating, and sprayed them with butter-flavored no-stick spray. You can carefully brush yours with melted butter if you prefer, but the other way is just too easy and works so perfectly, that, why chance ruining them?
Just don’t skip this step is all. You want a nice, crisp, outer coating, and gorgeous color!
Then they bake in the hot sun, I mean oven, until nicely tanned!
Then you can pile them together right on the baking sheet, or transfer them to an oven-proof serving plate. I used a single-serving, cast iron fajita pan.
Next, pile them with three awesome cheeses, pepperoni “slices”, and a little sprinkling of parsley flakes!
Then pop them into the oven again to melt the cheeses into a gooey, heavenly, mess!
Then simply serve them with my easy, warmed pizza sauce for dipping! You can even add a little of my homemade Ranch or Blue Cheese Salad Dressing on the side as well if you’d like!
Now. Don’t these look AWESOME??!!! And more like something that’s actually going to taste like pizza?!
Yessirree, Bob.
And that they did.
So, enough with paying sky-high prices for mini pieces of dried out chicken that in no way resemble the menu picture nor the flavor they advertise.
Just make these Easy Cheesy Pepperoni Pizza Wings at home. SO much better. So much healthier. And absolutely DELICIOUS. Perfect for any party, get-together, or just something fun for the whole family to enjoy on movie night!
Have a fantastic day, be sure to keep wearing your mask, and stay safe and healthy! Love to all.
Easy Cheesy Pepperoni Pizza Wings
Serves 3 – 6
Ingredients:
14 – 18 large wings
2 extra large beaten eggs
2 cups (packed) shredded mozzarella and provolone blend cheese, I used Sargento’s
freshly grated parmesan cheese
slices of pepperoni snipped into pizza-shaped triangles, as much as you like
dried parsley flakes
pizza sauce, warmed, my homemade preferably!
Ranch or Blue Cheese Salad Dressing if desired
For Seasoned Flour:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 Tbl. dried oregano
1 Tbl. garlic powder
1 tsp. regular salt
1 tsp. dried basil
1/2 tsp. course ground black pepper
For Seasoned Breadcrumbs:
1 cup italian-seasoned dried breadcrumbs with romano cheese, I used Vigo brand
1 Tbl. dried oregano
1 tsp. dried basil
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º F.
In first bowl, whisk together the seasoned flour ingredients. In second bowl, beat eggs well. In third bowl, whisk together seasoned breadcrumb ingredients.
Pat wings dry, completely coat each wing in seasoned flour, shake off excess, completely coat in beaten egg; and lastly, coat WELL in seasoned breadcrumbs pressing on. Place onto parchment-lined baking sheet, or a sprayed baking rack placed over a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment or foil for easy cleanup.
Pop into preheated oven and bake for about 45 – 50 minutes, or until done inside and juices run clear. Remove from oven, bunch servings together closely using tongs, top with shredded and grated cheeses, then top with pepperoni pieces, then sprinkle on a little dried parsley flakes. Pop back into oven, and bake for about 5 minutes longer until cheeses have fully melted. (*I removed our wings to oven-proof, individual, cast iron fajita pans before finishing with the cheeses and pepperoni, etc.)
Serve hot with my warmed pizza sauce and cool salad dressing of choice for dipping! Awesome with my homemade Ranch or Blue Cheese! Enjoy!
