We have died and gone to asparagus heaven. Yep. Asparagus heaven. I had remembered seeing a similar recipe many years ago, and had always wanted to give it a try and never did. I think it was in an old Taste of Home magazine, but I wasn’t certain.
So I decided to start googling to see what I could find that sounded right. There were quite a few variations, and all of them just a bit different than what I was looking for. Some were thin, clear sauces, and some didn’t seem to have all of the ingredients that I wanted to use.
So I finally decided to just head to the kitchen, pull out everything that I wanted in there, and just do my own take on this intriguing, mystery cream sauce!
The results were stellar if I do say so myself! To say that I was very pleased with the outcome would be a drastic understatement! We’re asparagus fanatics, and even my Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus with Whole Grain Mustard Butter Sauce has taken a backseat to this new recipe!
Yep. It was that good. The epitome of “elegance in simplicity”. 😉
And what an easy no-fret, stress-free recipe to make for company it is! 😉 The sauce isn’t cooked. Not even warmed. You can make this hours or or days beforehand, then just cook your asparagus however you enjoy it, and spoon the sauce over the hot veggie. The heat of the asparagus warms the sauce!
How super simple is that?
Minimal ingredients and takes minutes to prepare. Why I never tried this before is beyond me. But I’m so glad that I finally did!! This will be my new go-to recipe for company for sure!
Rich and creamy, yet light at the same time. The orange flavor shining through delicately, complimenting the asparagus like a match made in heaven, and soooo dreamy velvety on the tongue!
This would go nicely with chicken, fish, roast beef or pork, grilled steaks, or a nice country baked ham! It’s hard to think of something that it wouldn’t pair well with!
We’re having this again, as I didn’t even have my fill of this the last time, to go along with our Christmas ham dinner this year! And out of all of the dishes that I’m making, I’m not kidding you, I’m looking forward to this one the most. 🙂
I’m so happy to share my version of this dreamy orange cream sauce with you! I hope that it makes an appearance at your holiday table, too! This would also be a nice sauce to serve over broccoli, fresh green beans or sweet peas or lima beans, too, but I think that the asparagus makes it extra special. 😉
Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday everyone! And I’ll see you tomorrow with a double-dish to make, too! 😉 😀 ~Kelly
