Sticky Baked Honey Sriracha Hot Wings / #Choctoberfest 2016

This year’s #Choctoberfest is starting to near the end, and I have really enjoyed myself! My hubby has been in 7th heaven, and my neighbors have sure appreciated all the goodies I’ve sent next door! I so hope that you have been enjoying this very special event as much as we all have! There’re still a few days left to enter the enormous Giveaway, so be sure to check out the main page for all of the details!! Many thanks to Allison for starting and organizing this fun event! Be sure to check out her blog at The PinterTest Kitchen! We all very much appreciate your hard work! Great job! to Allison, and anyone else working behind the scenes!

Welp, I’ve been having so much fun with this, that I couldn’t resist making a few more recipes for you with some of the fantastic products that our generous sponsors have sent us! So I decided to create a second recipe for as many of them as I could! And my love of honey had me reaching, again, for one of the now coveted bottles of 100% All-Natural Raw & Unfiltered Honey from Nature Nate’s! Nature Nate’s, one of our Silver Sponsors this year, is doing a lot more than just kindly donating to our event, they are working hard to help breast cancer victims and have joined with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, (nbcf.org). Nature Nate’s #HoneyGivesHope and National Breast Cancer Foundation is Helping Women Now® by providing early detection, education and support services to those affected by breast cancer in all 50 states. NBCF’s programs—including their National Mammography Program, Patient Navigator Program, Beyond The Shock, breast health education, and research programs—offer compassion and resources to women in need so that no one faces breast cancer alone. Any company that helps, such as Nate’s, who puts others first who are in need, are what this country needs. Thank you to Nate, his family, his mother who is a 30-year breast cancer survivor, and all involved for helping people who are facing something so horrific no one should ever have to go through. Thank you Nature Nate’s! Breast cancer, as well well as other horrific cancers, have taken the lives of so many of my immediate family members, relatives and friends. We all need to do what we can to put a stop this evil disease.

So on to the recipe! I wanted and needed to create something fun for us to enjoy on football  weekend, as our lives have been in complete turmoil for the last year, and we’ve needed some serious cheering up! Sadly, my all-time, game day favorite doesn’t happen to be something that my hubby cares for. At all. He absolutely doesn’t like anything “Buffalo”. I know. Woe is me!!! When I first met him, he couldn’t hardly tolerate any kind of spice with heat, but I’m slowly bringing him around. 😉 And in just the past couple of years, I found a rather hot and spicy product that doesn’t seem to bother him at all that he actually LOVES. And that’s sriracha sauce! So I decided to create a special kind of “hot wings” just for him. Combining my love of honey, and his love for sriracha! 🙂 A tastebud-friendly compromise! Something slightly sweet, a little bit sticky, with a nice amount of heat, and perfect for watching football, movie night, the Super Bowl and all of the upcoming parties for the holidays! A match made in heaven!

Here are just a few quick shots so you can get the idea of how they look in the process!

They really turned out delicious, and I’ve finally made a lover of “hot wings” out of my hubby! (a.k.a. “Mr. Picky Pants”. 😉 ) Mission accomplished! Where there’s a wing, there’s a way!! 😉 I hope you enjoy them as much as we do! *And you can adjust the heat and sweetness to your own personal preference by simply adjusting the amounts of honey and sriracha to make everyone in your house happy, too! Food should be fun and enjoyable for everyone. And this really is a nice alternative to the same-old, same-old!

I so hope these Sticky Baked Honey Sriracha Hot Wings
make a special appearance at your next get together!

Sticky Baked Honey Sriracha Hot Wings / #Choctoberfest 2016
Yield: 3 - 4 servings as an appetizer

Sticky Baked Honey Sriracha Hot Wings / #Choctoberfest 2016

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs. wings and drumettes, (10 extra large, or approx. 15-18 small to regular-sized ones)
  • 2 Tbl. melted butter, (*to be used to baste halfway through baking)

Spice Blend:

  • 1 Tbl. smoked sweet paprika
  • 1/2 Tbl. regular table salt
  • 1/2 Tbl. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. coarse ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. dried thyme, crush between fingers when adding
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cajun seasoning such as Slap Ya Mama
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper

For Sauce:

  • 3 Tbl. butter
  • 1/2 cup Nature Nate's 100% Pure Raw and Unfiltered Honey
  • 1/2 cup sriracha sauce
  • 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 + 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp. cajun seasoning
  • finely sliced green onions or chives, optional garnish
  • finely chopped fresh parsley, optional garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375º F.
  • In small bowl, mix together Spice Blend until very well mixed. Spray a 7x11 or 13x9 baking dish.
  • Sprinkle "ugly/bottom sides" of chicken pieces with half of the spice blend mixture. Place into baking dish seasoned side-down. Sprinkle tops with rest of seasoning. *Pieces will be well coated. Don't worry, it's not too much.
  • Pop into oven and bake for 55 minutes. (*After 25 minutes of baking, melt the 2 Tbl. butter and baste tops using all of the butter).
  • While chicken pieces are baking, make Sauce.
  • Add Sauce ingredients to a small saucepan, bring to just a boil over medium heat stirring frequently, reduce heat to very low, and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring every so often as needed to prevent the bottom from scorching. Remove from heat and set aside. Line a large baking sheet with foil and spray. Set aside to wait for chicken.
  • When 55 minutes for the chicken is up, remove baking dish from the oven. (Leave oven on.)
  • Place chicken pieces into large mixing bowl, pour sauce over chicken. With a spoon, turn each one, one at a time gently to coat, removing each to a foil-lined and sprayed baking sheet. Top each with a little more sauce from bottom of bowl, and bake for another 8 - 10 minutes. *Just watch so the sauce doesn't burn. Let rest on baking sheet for a few minutes.
  • Remove chicken pieces to a serving platter.
  • Let rest for a few minutes longer before eating so no one burns their mouth! Sauce will be very hot! Serve nice and warm. (Serve with any extra sauce left in bowl if desired. Sometimes I have a little left, and sometimes not. It just depends on the size of the chicken pieces). And enjoy!!
