This horrific heatwave has had me so edgy. The other day, the heat index (“feels like”) spiked to an unbelievable had I not seen it for myself, FIERY, 124ºF!! Seriously. Not kidding. To save energy and not give every last penny to the power companies, we keep the A/C off, the house shut with all the fans on, until evening. Then we turn it on to cool it down enough to sleep. But still turn it off at 9:00 p.m., which keeps the house cool all night long. But the mornings – – are the worst. The sun all but sets the whole back of the house on fire, being there so many doors and windows. But the good news? Last month’s electric bill was only $79.39! That, and this cool, refreshing, lightly sweet and nicely tart Cranberry Strawberry Lemonade Cocktail, that has kept me from needing a shovel and an alibi. 😉
My hubby has been a real trooper through this heatwave, though. He’s actually gone out and watered all the plants for me when the mornings are at their worst, helped with the dishes, and even helped with the laundry! He’s my rock!!
So if you’re experiencing some incredibly frustrating hot weather, too, (who isn’t these days??), keep this cocktail in mind and pick up the few ingredients you’ll need on your next trip to the store! You can even change up the flavor of the cocktail juice to Cran-Cherry, Cran-Pomegranate, or any of Ocean Spray’s other flavors, too! They have a ton of different flavor combinations now. Or choose a completely different kind of juice that happens to be your own personal favorite. Believe it or not, this is actually fantastic with regular grape juice, too! You wouldn’t at first think that they would be compatible, but they actually go extremely well together!
You can also make this without alcohol, too, of course. Just omit it altogether. You can add a little fizz, just for fun, too, if you’d like, by adding some lemon-lime soda. Just have fun with it, and create a nice, cool beverage that takes this awful heat out, relieves the built up steam valve so you don’t explode….not that I’ve had any meltdowns lately…oops…and grab a good book or watch a romantic comedy and just let the stress drift away…
