Apple Barbecue Sauce

Apple Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbl. butter
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves finely minced garlic
  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup apple juice (1 - 8 oz. bottle)
  • 1/4 cup light beer
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 Tbl. worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbl. apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. spicy brown mustard
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/4 tsp. coarse ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. cajun seasoning

Instructions

  • In a small to medium saucepan on stovetop or grill, add butter and onions and sauté until soft. Add garlic and sauté one more minute.
  • Add rest of ingredients, stir to mix, and cook over medium-low heat until simmering, stirring frequently, for about 15 - 20 minutes (once it starts to simmer). Reduce temp to Low (or move to a cool side of the grill) towards the end as it gets thicker. *Time depends on how thick you like your sauce.
  • Remove from heat, cool, then pour into blender and blend until smooth.
  • Pour into a jar, lid, and store in the fridge until needed.
